MIME 576 Advanced Steelmaking and Processing (4 credits)

Overview

Mining & Materials Engineering : The role of thermodynamics and mass transport phenomena in the production of liquid iron and steel in blast furnaces and basic oxygen/electric arc furnaces, followed by refining, and continuous casting of steel sheet, blooms and billets. The physical metallurgy of steels. Thermo-mechanical processing, rolling, and strengthening mechanisms. Phases, microstructures, and associated mechanical properties.
